4 Ways to Have a Blast in Regina this Winter

  • March 15, 2017

From enlightening exhibitions and mind blowing art shows, to sipping tea in a beautiful ballroom, Regina offers endless ways to keep you busy over the winter. Here are four of our favourites…

1. Visit the RCMP Heritage Centre

The new ‘Building Better Partnerships’ exhibit explores the history of First Nations peoples and the Mounted Police, especially the partnerships created including the early relationship of NWMP Commissioner Macleod and Blackfoot Chief Crowfoot. It features a full sized tipi, an arctic ice display, and cultural and traditional dress and headdress displays.

2. Celebrate at the Royal Saskatchewan Museum

To recognize the 150th year of Confederation, 150 species from the provincial natural history and fossil collections are on display. This is a great opportunity to see parts of the museum’s collection that are usually hidden away behind closed doors.

3. Have Tea at Government House

Purchase tickets for a Christmas Victorian Tea in the Ballroom at Government House. A typical tea includes three sandwiches, a fresh scone and preserves and a dessert. Christmas teas will be taking place on December 2 and 3.

4. See Works of Art at the MacKenzie Art Gallery

There are two new exhibits to check out: Dana Claxton: The Sioux Project–Tatanka Oyate, and Jeff Funnel: Notes from the Inquest. Dana Claxton explores contemporary Sioux aesthetics in Saskatchewan, while Notes from the Inquest sees Winnipeg artist Jeff Funnell pointing to the urgent problems of racial discrimination and social inequality faced by Indigenous people today.
